I often have wondered, exactly how many of the Gleaner C62 conventional combines were actually built? I know they were in production from 1998 to 2002 I believe, with the majority of them built at Independence Mo before the move to Hesston KS in around 2000/2001? I have only ever seen 1 real C62 Gleaner in real life and that is when it was Brand New on the local dealers lot. I have never seen any in the fields around here at least.
Wonder how many of the MF 8680's were sold as well, seeing as the MF version was made off of the C62 combine?

Yeah, I have thought about emailing AGCO to see if maybe they could tell me how many of the "C62" and MF 8680 combines were built. I have only seen one in real life, they were a big massive combine with high capacity and a 300 bushel grain tank. Bigger then the 9600, 9610 Deere combine at the time. I think it was released a little too late.

I always thought that the c62 combine was brought out for farmers that bale straw since the rotory combines at that time had a bad habit of chewing up the straw to bad

Yes, the C62 was brought out for that reason, given the fact the R2 series of Rotary Gleaners at the time did not do the best of job with straw quality. Not sure what the S9 series of Gleaners will be like. But I have seen the straw behind an R42 next to the straw behind an L3 Gleaner, and the straw quality was better with the L3.
Think the C62 was a bit more gentle on crops then the Rotaries. As the board grows, maybe someone who has ran the C62/MF 8680 will tell us how they performed.

Rotaries are horrible on straw as they grind it up really good. Round baling it is a nightmare. However I saw some have success with a square baler. One farmer uses a R52 on straw and square bales it. I guess he having some success with it. Been doing it for a few years now.

Yeah, a lot of conventional combines are still in use up here for guys wanting straw, most are Deere 9000 series. Think if Gleaner brought out a modern conventional again( smaller then the C62)that was around the L2/ M2 size it would be a good fit for some guys. Then again AGCO needs to fix the dealer network.

Running a C62 currently, 2001 model and we are very happy with it. We do bale a lot of straw so it leaves good quality straw. When you do want to chop, cuts nice and fine with wide spread pattern. Wish AGCO would come out with a replacement for this conventional- haven't seen anything that provides as nice of a sample with minimal loss.
