Model "E" Gleaner:
In 1962 Gleaner introduced the Model "E" combine to AC dealerships, it was designed for farmers who wanted a combine but did not need the capacity of the "A" and "C" combines, plus it filled in the market left vacant by the Gleaner Model "T" combine and AC's own All Crop SP 100 combine. The Model "E" Gleaner was built to handle grain heads from 8 to 12 feet wide, and had the option of a 2 row corn head for harvesting corn. The "E" Gleaner was built until 1967 when it was replaced by the short lived "EIII" combine. The bin capacity of the "E" was at around 40 bushels. The width of the Cylinder was only at 27 inches, compared to the 40 inch Cylinder on the "C", and the 30" inch cylinder on the "A" Gleaner. Total cleaning area on the "E" Gleaner 2,680 square inches. The "E" Gleaner was powered by an AC 4 cylinder 226 cubic inch gasoline engine, which happened to be the same engine that was used in the D17 tractor of the same period. Between the "E" and EIII Gleaners, nearly 21,000 combines were built, making both models combined to be one of the most popular Gleaner combines made. The Separator width on the "E" was 32 inches wide.
Model "EIII" Gleaner:
The Gleaner "EIII" combine was only built for one year in 1968 and filled the gap in the line up until the "K" Gleaner was introduced. The "EIII" combine used the same engine as the Model "E" combine, but featured a bit more capacity. The Grain tank size was increased to 66 bushels from 40 bushels, and now could run a grain head from 8 to 13 feet. A 3 row corn head was now an option as well, so the farmer had two different corn head sizes to pick from. The Transmission in the "EIII" as well was Belt driven with 3 forward and 1 reverse gear. The "EIII" also had a longer separating area then the "E" combine, and had a much improved optional cab, over the old optional cab on the "E" Gleaner.
While the "E" and "EIII" Combine's are rarely found on farms working today, in some areas of the US and Canada they can be found on small family or hobby farms. A new market for the "E" and EIII combines, have been for use as "Test plot" combines for some Universities Research programs and for some seed companies test machines. Overall, the "E" and "EIII" were a nice little combine, and for a hobby farm today they are a nice size.

The E is one of my all time favorite Gleaners. Since that combine was the first one I rode in. And started my love for combines and Gleaners. The small farmer had around 100 acres. So it was perfect for his small operation. His biggest tractor was a Case 970. He only cut grain and soys with his E. I think it had a 10ft or 8ft header on it. I know a few Es still around. Either sitting out behind a shed rotting, or still in use. I know one still uses his for grain, soybeans, and corn. I would love to get it on film one day in action.
I know of one E III in the area. Never saw it cut, but I saw it in the shed. Hadn't saw it in years, so I don't know if its still around. I think his had a 10ft or 13ft header. Also the E III looked very similar to the K. As it was styled like them. So from a distance they would look the same.

The Gleaner "EIII" wasn't that common of a combine as it was only produced for one year. Sure between the EIII and "E" Gleaner 21,000 were produced but the majority of them built were "E" Gleaners.
I have only ever saw one Gleaner "EIII" in my life and my local dealer had it before a seed company bought it for a test plot combine.

Hey just curious. I bought a e it has a bin exsension that was made for it not a farm build. How many bushel did this add to the bins holding. Looking at it I would say 10 more making it a 50 bu holding.
