A lot has changed since the Baldwin Brothers first took the Fordson- Mounted Gleaner to field back in 1923. A lot of guys are aware that John Deere is still under its own name today, but a lot of guys are forgetting that GLEANER has survived for a long long time as well. True it has been bought out in its history, but NOT ONCE has the GLEANER name disappeared off of the combine at all. Gleaner fought through the depression, like a few other brands, and even survived the merger with Allis -Chalmers. The Guys at AC knew they had a great combine when they purchased the company and to be honest AC really helped Gleaner to grow as a brand within the company, they had so much faith in the Gleaner line, that AC's own combines were dropped several years later to focus on Gleaner combine line. Then during the 1980's when Allis Chalmers sold out to Duetz and Duetz-Allis took over, the GLEANER BRAND survived yet again, while unfortunately dropping the orange tractors hurt Duetz-Allis in general. Combine development and production continued. When AGCO-ALLIS was formed, Gleaner once again continued on under the silver color scheme and name.
Now in 2016 Gleaner is still around today, even after AGCO has merged several of the other companies it has acquired over the years. Kevin Bien and his team really did wonders in fighting for the Brands survival and did what many others thought was not possible: Delivering a Class 8 Transverse Rotary Gleaner combine to market and improving the Class 7 machine as well. Happy 93rd anniversary Gleaner in 2016! Can't wait to see Gleaner reach its 100th anniversary in 2023.
