Thought you would like that Glenn! Figured out something that would describe Gleaner using the name.
G - George Baldwin, one of the founders of Gleaner
L - Lightest combine in the industry = less soil compaction
E - Ernest Baldwin- Another founder of Gleaner
A - Able to stand the test of time, while other AGCO BRANDS have merged
N - Never stops trying to improve their product
E - Excellent field performances
R - Revolutionary ideas and innovations

A friend of mine read in some paper that AGCO will be dropping two of it's combine lines and Massey will not be the one to survive. Probably will stay in Europe. Challenger....really a Clas (European as well). Since a lot of time has been spent on Gleaner my guess Gleaner will win out. On another note, my friend in WALLSTREET JOURNAL that Fiat sold CASE NEW HOLLAND to DEERE & CO. and DEERE said the Case name will only be on construction equipment, the name International will be dropped and all farm equipment will be blue with the New Holland name. It went on to say farmers had a fit (color and name does mean something). Don't know what will happen but DEERE & CO. will make a lot of money even if they don't sell only green. I will say this, this is a golden opportunity for Deere to take only what is better than they have, scrap the rest and get back to only producing green. On an even different note, when I get my L3, F, '51 A and a T built by others and build my FMG, PT, E pull-type and P80, I might build a 1/16 GLEANER museum. Since I have the C & N7, alond /w/ my other Gleaner builds it might make for a pretty nice 1/16 museum. It would probably be 4'x8' and teed with another 4'x8' section. 4'x8' figures 64'x128', lot of realestate to display. Nuff said for now.

Do you have a link to that story about Deere buying CNH?
I have my doubts that John Deere has enough $$ to buy CNH or even the courts allowing that size of a merger to happen at all! Think its just a rumor for now. Had heard AGCO was interested in CNH at one point along with Kubota?
As for the Challenger combines, the ones built in Hesston KS are really MF 9500 series painted Yellow. The ones built overseas and sold over there are Laverda combines. I know they offer a Valtra combine as well in Europe. Thinking they will drop the Laverda and Valtra combines for sale over there. Can't see MF combines being dropped but you never know.
