Great pictures! From the decals that Gleaner "F" looks to be about a 75- or 76 model right before the switch to the F2 Gleaner in 1977. What's interesting is that the early F2 Gleaners went to a different style decal with the background on the decal being White while the Gleaner name was in black, while the F2 number was in orange. Then when the later F2's came out, they went back to the same style of decals as the F Gleaner in your pictures.
Given that this is a later "F" Gleaner I am going to guess its probably a Diesel over a Gas, given gas engines in combines were on the way out in the mid 70's. Think Gleaner was one of last few companies to offer a gas engine in their combines. Know Deere did on the New Generation combines, and I think NH did as well, but the majority of them were sold as Diesels.

Yep your right, its interesting how they went that way, and back to it again. I guess they liked it better with the black background. This one was a Diesel, and by then most was phased out.
This F had the smaller rear tire option, like the older F. Where some could be ordered with a larger back tire. I don't know if that option of the larger tire was on the older models.

Didn't know you could get a different rear tire option for the "F" Gleaner. It is neat seeing the differences between the early "F" and later "F" Gleaners. Neat to see them still in use.

Other than engine, transmission, and tire options. I think that was about it for the older combines. I'm sure there was other options. My brochures is of the older versions. I could look in them to see what they offered.

Believe there was a Rice version of the Gleaner F as well, with the "FR" Rice special combine. Biggest changes it had was the spike tooth cylinder and front Rice tires on it. Think it was standard with a Diesel engine and perhaps Hydro- traction drive was standard too.

I've never seen an F. The Gleaner CII and G where popular in my area but F's where not. They look like a good simple machine.

There were a few "F" Gleaners around my area back in the day, but the "F2'was the most popular model of Gleaners that size sold around here. Particularly the later 78-82 Gleaner F2's were popular because of the Swivel unloading auger that could be swing in and out from a push button in the cab, plus the bigger 120 bushel grain tank on the later F2's really help sell them. There were a few "F3" Gleaners around as well, but not near as popular as the F2. I have never seen the Duetz-Allis F3 Gleaner with the Green Stripe at all in person, but know they exist and are VERY hard to find.

G's, L's and the N series where the most popular Gleaners where I'm from. There are still a few L2s and N7s around however most everyone has switched to red and green.

The Gleaner conventional combines were very popular in my neck of the woods, used to be more L2's and L3's around by now everyone is 90% Green or RED. No one will give Gleaner a chance anymore they just laugh at them unfortunately. The "N" series Gleaners were never that popular around here, most guys had lots of problems with them. It wasn't until the R40's/ R50's came out that the Gleaner Rotaries started to gain acceptance, so in truth the N series were rushed to market quicker then they probably should have been.
R42's and R52 Gleaners were a good seller for our local dealer along with the R62's. When Gleaner brought out the short lived R55 Gleaner, it was a good seller for them as well, but they dropped it prematurely and sales bleed off to red and Green.

Hi there! This article could not be written much better! Going through this post reminds me of my previous roommate! He continually kept preaching about this. I'll send this information to him. Fairly certain he will have a good read. Many thanks for sharing!
